Sunset Beach: 23 Jun 2011

Hey!  Marin and Nick are visiting us for a few days, hooray!  We started out our trip with a visit to Bryan, Jessica, and Danny in Washington, D.C., and then stopped by Philadelphia for a bit on our way back to Cape May, where we enjoyed the sunset and flag ceremony at Sunset Beach.  I had so much fun taking pictures I just couldn't stop!  Here's some of them:
Sunset June 23, 2011

I tried to get the sunset and the reflection on the water and the waves to all look cool all at once.  Sometimes it worked better than other times.

Marin and Nick!  Yay!

And me and Skye...

Ooh, I like this one with the beach in the picture, too.  Plus those waves look cool.

We got a picture of Skyelr throwing rocks at me...

And with some birds...

And then the sunset just got cooler and cooler, look at this.

This picture is out of place in our sunset coolness progression pictures.  Sorry.

Doesn't that look neat?

Ok, so there was a flock of sea birds feeding on something (I tried to see what but couldn't figure it out) right on the water line and they all got frightened and flew away, which looks cool, right?

And this is just a cool shot of the sunset.  Unfortunately some stranger's hand and camera are in the picture, but only if you look closely.

More sea birds feeding, and then...

Marin's on the attack!

And the top of Marin's head!

And I think this picture really belongs chronologically somewhere not at the end, but it looks nice anyway.
Ok!  So that was a lot of pictures, but not as many as I took!  Sometime in the near future I plan on posting our pictures of D.C. and Philly, but I'm a little blogged out right now.  Adios!

Recent Events

Me during a firefighting drill.  I am billeted as an overhead boundaryman.

Last Thursday, Jessianne and I drove to Washington DC and went to the
Smithsonian Air and Space Museum with Jessica and Danny.

After the museum we had lunch in some gardens.

The most exciting thing for me though, was visiting Fort Ward, an old Civil War fort.
It's the first time I had been to a Civil War site in a long time.

Preparing To Go Underway

Well, we are preparing to get underway again.  They say this patrol will be a relatively short one.
We are supposed to be going to places, that I am not presently at liberty to say.  I can't say where I am going because of operational security.  The Coast Guard wouldn't want the bad guys to know what our agenda is.  The last time we went underway we got some not-so-reliable intel from another government agency that turned out to be nothing.
So, in order to protect our mission and the nation from devious acts of sabotage, I am censoring this blog post.

CG Update

Well I haven't posted in a long time.  Yes, I am in the Coast Guard.  I am stationed aboard the Vigorous which is a 210' medium endurance cutter.  I am learning all the ins and outs of being a sailor and really loving it.  So far I have only been on one patrol.  We went south and sailed the old Spanish Main.  Unfortunately, I haven't had a run in with a kraken yet or seen any mermaids, but I remain hopeful.

Howdy Folks!

I guess it's about time for an update on the Baird family!  Hold on to your socks, everybody!

Skyelr graduated from Coast Guard basic training on Jan 7, 2011.  He got assigned to Cape May, New Jersey, and so that's where we will be living for the next little while (maybe a year or two).  We should be all moved out there by the beginning of February.

Well, I was going to put up some pictures of his graduation, but I can't find them... I guess I thought they were on this computer but they're not!

No more news for now, but I'll keep you all informed of how things go for us in Cape May!

Mid-December, 2010

Hey all!

It's the middle of December and I'm getting ready for Christmas!  I am at my parents house for the next couple of weeks, celebrating the season with my folks.

Skyelr is still in basic training, and he sounds okay.  He's alive, and I don't have a whole ton more info on him than that.  Soon we'll find out where we will be stationed.

A few weeks ago I took a trip with a friend from high school to San Francisco--here's some pics!

Boot Camp for Skyelr!

 Howdy Y'all!

So, Skyelr is in Coast Guard boot camp, and he's been there for two weeks.  Want some info?  Here you go!

1.  His address is:
 SR Baird, Skyelr
H-184 Healy Hall
USCG TRACEN Cape May
1 Munro Ave
Cape may, NJ 08204

2.  He can't get packages, just letters.

3.  He graduates Jan 7, 2011.

So if you'd like to write, he'd love that I'm sure.  Me, I'm doing fine.  Keeping busy and not going crazy and all that.  Not spending a whole lot of time bloggin, as you can see, but here's one more little update of our adventures.
